You’ll probably never read another book like this – and if you’ve bought it, if you possibly can, please start it immediately! ‘Reverend Grey’ took me on a journey where I experienced emotions of compassion, anger and sadness.
It’s the moving true story of a marriage assailed by the effects of how the minister husband’s addiction to pornography led to a relentless obsession with illicit sex. It’s written, with incredible love, by his wife. She describes the dark descent over many years into deceit, lying, cheating, immorality and unfaithfulness but somehow manages to do this without being salacious or becoming bitter.
You may think that pornography can’t seriously be a problem, shocking statistics point to a serious problem and we must not brush it under the carpet! These individuals have been enticed and captured and need help to break free. If you’re one of them, or someone you know is affected please have the courage to read how much heartache porn can bring.
As she unfolds her tale, Elaine shares her heart with honesty, with sorrow, and with hope. She admits she’s made mistakes. She helped to hide terrible secrets in order to protect her marriage, ministry, and most importantly, her family. If only they had sought support earlier, their marriage, ministry and family all might have been saved.
She describes her deep sorrow at how pornography steadily stole the man she loved and allowed the sinister alter ego ‘Mr Grey’ to take over. She holds on to hope because she knows that God loves her husband infinitely more than she ever could, and if he were to repent could set her husband free from the demonic hold that dominates their lives.
This is not an easy book to read but it will speak to you on many levels. Their story is not unique; behind closed doors many marriages are being torn apart because of sexual immorality, almost always beginning with a porn habit. Breaking free takes immense courage and determination. We must reach out to those who have fallen foul of this not with anger and judgement but understanding, practical help and the grace and truth of Jesus.
